Cars... -edit-

Wed Jan 4, 2006, 3:35 PM
I'm getting a new car! Well, newish, anyway. My current car is dying. It's an '88 Toyota Corolla wagon.

The air conditioning is almost dead. And having had the thing sieze up 2 or 3 times, we're not touching it again! And last week the thermometre hit 45 degrees C. So what happens? My car stalls. Three times. Autos are not suppose to stall! It doesn't like having the AC on when it's very hot. Very useful, huh? And when it's main driver and passenger are prone to carsickness in the heat...

And it's a gutless wonder. It can't go faster than 30kph up hills. Time for a replacement, methinks.

But we went to look at a car today. A 2000 model Toyota Rav 4. I'm a farmer's daughter. My grandfather lives at the end of a track that is 4WD only. But the guy at the car yard was very rude. He didn't seem to want to sell the car at all. It was basically:

Car dude: "Well, what do you want?"

Alacaeriel and Celebfinwen: "We want to look at the Rav 4"

Car dude: *points* "Well, there it is."

Hmph! We aren't getting that car. But there'll be other cars. Hopefully I'll find one before my current thing dies completely.

I think he was suffering from menoporche in a Mazda car yard.

Okay...

I think something is wrong with my mother. The overprotective parent I live with is letting me have a life! This is the woman who never let me go to parties until I was 16 and I had to be home by 10. Now I'm 20 and I'm still barely allowed to go out much, but she let me go to a party on the weekend! Without my twin!

Okay, I will grant that she has some reason for being protective. I do have a few issues and anything that can cause high blood pressure, such as excitement, alcohol, etc could kill me. But I do like to spend time with friends

And she's letting me go out on Friday again! She hasn't asked where, but I do have to be home by midnight. I think that's largely so I'm not a complete and total bitch on Saturday. And I can understand that. But I'm still allowed to go out! :boogie:

Exams are evil

Wed Nov 9, 2005, 3:33 AM
Note to self: do not stress!

I'm trying to not stress at the moment. Finals start next week. However, being a languages student, I have two major tests this week, one of them being a Final!
I had the final aural exam for one course on Monday. I think I passed. But I've got the final for my Conversational Japanese course on Friday. It will be an interview. I've got the script for four scenarios. In English. I have to translate and memorise all four, but I'll only have to do two of them. I guess I should count myself lucky for being given the scripts! Okay, not stressing!

But we had some amusement last week. We made a new friend. He's from New Mexico. He'd never met twins before, let alone identical twins. He was kinda excited about it, but not disturbingly so. We've had some strange reactions before. However, this guy was the only one to ask if our fingerprints were the same. That hadn't occured to us before. One of our thumbprints is the same, but the other is different.

This is possible. It isn't common, but it is possible. It was fun to find out, though :giggle:

Exhausted!

Sun Oct 2, 2005, 5:25 AM
Well! Long time no update! But I've had a very busy fortnight. And a great deal of fun. Last week, I met with my tutor for Japanese and have improved a fair bit. He said he can't understand why I think I need tutoring, but also said "if you can get help, take it!". Which is what I'm doing, of course. But on Wednesday, immediately after my tutoring session, my sister and I drove out to our grandfather's. A six-hour drive for us. A great deal of fun. The real reason we were going out, our grandfather having to make a court appearance for an AVO (he's got an AVO out against him, and he's turning 88 next week!) was cancelled, so he rang and told us we didn't need to go, but we kept going anyway. We weren't going to miss out on seeing our grandfather and aunt. We hadn't seen them for months! We came home on Friday, and went to a birthday party for our friend's 2 year old son on Saturday.

But Friday just gone, I had a great deal of fun. A friend of mine, her husband was a gymnast, and they had three gymnasts staying with them. They were Japanese gymnasts. So my friend kindly invited me to come visit. And I had so much fun! The performance was quite good. There were children, Australian and Chinese, as well as the Japanese university students. At the party afterwards, I practised my Japanese, since most of them didn't speak much English. I was crouching by my friend's son when one of them asked how old he was and I replied in Japanese. Her response was "aa... nisai....Nihongo!? Honto?!" which literally translates as "ah... two years old... Japanese?! Really?!" I also drove two of the gymnasts who were staying with my friend home, since she didn't have enough seats in her car for all three, her husband, and her son. My poor sister was there as well, and half the conversation was in English, and the other half in Japanese. I'm sorry, but I really, really enjoyed it :giggle:

We slept Friday night at our friend's place and left at about 7:30 on Saturday morning. We drove the hour ten home, I snoozed for half an hour, and then we left again, for another friend's 21st! We didn't stay for her entire party, but we did arrive on time, and we did have fun. And the party-girl also had a great deal of fun. She got a great number of photos.

Although... one of the guys there found that he could actually lift both my sister and my up at the same time... and carry us a short distance. The only reason he put us down was because we were both yelling that our ribs were protesting. That was strange.

But today, after all that, I slept. And I'll be sleeping in tomorrow, too! But I did have a great deal of fun!
